September Zone 9 Checklist

General:

□ Plan and rearrange beds if desired.

□ Water regularly.

□ Continue to ensure beds are well mulched and weeded.

Continue to deadhead spent flowers on annuals and perennials

□ Clean up garden flowers like salvias, rudbeckia, and butterfly bush by removing spent flowers. Cut below the dead flower to just above the next set of green leaves. Cut on an angle with a sharp pair of pruners.

□ Remove dead or diseased leaves, broken stems and any fallen leaves on the ground. Keeping your soil free of rotting debris will keep future fungus at bay.

□ Edge all bed and borders for a tidy appearance.

Plant:

□ Fall bedding plants

□ Sweetgrass and camellias for blooms the following months

Prune:

□ Shrubs lightly, if at all, so as not to encourage new growth.

□ Trim landscape plants for shape.
