Our Watering Guide is based on Lowcountry temperature and whether you have well draining soil or poor draining soil.
If you live in North Mt. Pleasant (in Dunes West, Park West, Carolina Park, Planter’s Point, or others), your soil tends to be poor draining clay soil. Your waterings will need to be thorough but not as frequent as if you have well-draining soil.
If you live in an area like the Old Village, Cooper Estates, Ion, West Ashley, or downtown Charleston, with well-draining topsoil, your plant will need, initially, a lot of water and frequently.
We recommend thoroughly and individually watering your plants with a hose directly onto the rootball as shown in the image below. New plants need a lot of water from the hose onto the rootball. This is especially true during our hot summer months, and it is critical to their success.
